Concrete floor saw users working with Kier are to see work in Northumberland constructing educational facilities.

The local authority has awarded the firm with a £46 million contract to complete three new buildings for the Northumberland Church of England Academy entitled William Leech, Grace Darling and Josephine Butler.

"By 2012 all our students will be working in new or refurbished accommodation," executive director of the school Phil Hearne said.

"This will have a huge impact on their learning and the opportunities available to them."

All work on the new buildings is expected to be completed by 2012, with William Leech and Grace Darling campuses scheduled to open in 2011.

Josephine Butler will be the last development finished, as it is the largest and most ambitious of the projects.

Kier are recently commissioned to refurbish a town hall elsewhere in the country, when it won a contract to restore the Colosseum in Watford.
