The growing trend for floorless bathroom pods to be used in construction could see concrete floor saws required in order to achieve a good fit of the rooms.

Bathroom and kitchen pods are commonly used in modern buildings to reduce the risks of breakages due to assembling functional rooms on-site, reports AMA Research.

More recently, however, a greater number have been supplied without their own floors, allowing them to be incorporated into the destination building with a level walking surface.

For buildings with cementitious foundations, concrete floor saws may be needed to help achieve a waterproof fit around the base of wet-room pods.

"Showering is increasingly popular in the UK," reports AMA Research, "and shower-room pods, with their smaller footprint, can be used where space is at a premium or there is a requirement for extra durability or safety."

In 2010, based on manufacturers' selling prices, the market for bathroom and kitchen pods is worth an estimated £171 million, according to the analyst.
