The publication of a ten-year strategy to enhance car parking in Chichester could have concreting tools at the ready for builders in the region.

Chichester District Council explains that it does not intend to do more than is necessary to deliver a good quality of parking facilities.

However, it believes that 60 more spaces are needed in Midhurst and 500 car parking spots in Chichester itself to deal with expected traffic rises in the coming decade.

Concreting tools could help to deliver these, either through the best use of existing available space or through the construction of multi-storey car parks.

Proposed solutions to the problem include the construction of "decked car parking" if demand and funding are both present.

A park and ride scheme could also be introduced to help relieve some of the parking demand in the central areas.

There are already eight short-stay car parks in the centre of Chichester, with four long-stay alternatives a ten-minute walk away near the ring road.
