Users of concrete tools working for Irish firm SIAC have been awarded a €450 million (£377.21 billion) contract to build a motorway in Poland.

The highway will be 35 km long, joining Kryz to Debica and is scheduled for completion within the next two years.

"With the downturn in the economy reducing major infrastructure project opportunities across Ireland and Great Britain, we took a strategic decision to try and develop international markets where we saw potential," Ronnie Foreman, chairman of the company, said.

Working alongside Polish company PGB, SIAC will begin building in August, while operations director at the organisation John Geoghegan confirmed that some senior managers were already in the Eastern European country.

The project, which will include the construction of 28 bridges, is not the first of its kind that the firm has completed.

According to SIAC's website, the company won a €300 million contract to build the M4/M6 motorway, which it finished ten months ahead of schedule.
