Brick tools users may be about to start work on a new environmentally-friendly housing initiative after it was awarded £3 million from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The £9.25 million scheme is set for the town's Belle Vue area and it is geared towards modernising the region and demolishing existing unattractive residences.

Investment and regeneration manager at the HCA Neil Cawson claimed the venture is an excellent example of how local regions can be boosted through funding.

"These homes will be built to a high standard for green living, meaning less carbon emissions and lower fuel bills for residents," he explained.

Consisting of 84 domiciles, the development will have a combination of bungalows and two, three and four-bedroom apartments.

Earlier this week (September 6th), the HCA revealed over 100 homes will be built in Darlington after it approved close to £4 million worth of financing for the new project.
