Almost £13.5 million is to go toward the construction of offices and industrial units by users of brick tools in Redruth, Cornwall.

The scheme was recently approved for European Regional Development Fund Convergence investment and is set to create over 170 jobs in the area.

As much as £6.6 million will be ploughed into the Barncoose Gateway Project, which will see nine new offices and hybrid or industrial units built.

"We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the Convergence funding that will assist with the delivery of this exciting new development for Redruth," Mr Bob Pepper, managing director of Practical Developments (South West), said.

Meanwhile, Neil Lindsey, European team director at CPR Regeneration, said the development would see long-term sustainable employment for local people.

Convergence invests in projects that will have a lasting affect on the economy of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

A European economic regeneration programme, it will be running in the area until 2013.
