New eco-mortgages designed to cover the cost of sustainable construction could be available to projects making use of concrete forms.

The lending from BuildStore aims to ensure householders do not have to cover the capital costs of sustainable construction up-front.

Instead, an extra amount can be added to the mortgage to provide the funds, based on the level of eco-friendliness incorporated into the project.

Everything from energy generation and energy performance to the fabric of the building itself is taken into account.

On this last criterion, concrete forms could be one way to demonstrate sustainability without creating an unconventional finished property.

Recycled aggregates allow previously used materials to be crushed and added to cement mixes, reducing the potential impact on the environment of quarrying fresh stone out of the ground.

Meanwhile, cement is in essence a naturally occurring substance which is simply relocated from its original site for use in construction.
