Construction activity in Bahrain has been tipped to continue at a healthy pace over the next year.

According to the Global Arab Network, plans to expand Bahrain International Airport should significantly boost the sector.

As a result, equipment such as lighting towers, electric trowels and concrete curing tanks could be widely deployed for tasks such as building a new terminal at the facility.

Millions of pounds are expected to be spent on the redevelopment at the transport hub, which should be opened in 2012 and allow it to handle an extra five million passengers a year.

The city of Manama is also set to benefit from widespread redevelopment, with new residential properties, commercial buildings and leisure outlets being created.

Majeed Millad Al Jazeeri, chairman of the Manama Municipal Council, has confirmed that work on the project could get underway as early as next year.

This means that construction companies are likely to be investing in key equipment such as bricklaying tools and concrete floor saws beforehand.

The comments coincide with the latest Bahrain Business Forecast, published by Companiesandmarkets.com, which said its economy should continue to grow during 2010.
