Users of brick tools working in London constructed the most energy efficient properties in the country on average between April and June of 2010, official figures show.

A report from Communities and Local Government puts London properties at the top of the sustainability hierarchy with a score of 82.4 on the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP).

SAP ratings typically range from zero to 100, depending on how effectively a dwelling uses the power that it consumes.

However, they can exceed 100 for homes with on-site power generation that export electricity to the national grid.

During the quarter, users of brick tools across England built more energy efficient houses than any other kind of property, the government department notes.

The figures show houses averaged a score of 80.1, compared with the worst performers on the SAP scale, which were bungalows at an average rating of 77.5 points.
