Funding has been set aside by the assembly government to help St Fagans National History Museum near Cardiff carry out modernisation and maintenance work.

Mobile light towers could soon be erected for construction workers to begin their efforts, thanks to the £1 million grant from the authority.

Last year, it provided £400,000 to improve the open air museum - found on the grounds of St Fagans Castle, a 16th-century manor house donated by the Earl of Plymouth.

Heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones noted that it is "vital" this institution - which was first opened to the public on November 1st 1948 - receives an upgrade.

"We are keen to ensure that St Fagans maintains its position at the heart of Welsh cultural life and its status as Wales' premier free tourist attraction," he continued, going on to add that alterations to the site will present a better image of Wales to visitors to the area.
