Concrete formwork users have been told that new legislation could be brought in to govern environmentally-friendly construction works.

The revised Waste Framework Directive (rWFD) indicates that 70 per cent of waste products must be recovered from the building and demolition industry by 2020.

Additionally, paper, metal, glass and plastics must be collected separately, technically, economically and environmentally by 2015, while half of all household waste must be recycled by 2020.

Encouraging waste prevention and the better utilisation of resources, increasing recycling and ensuring the protection of both the environment and human health are the aims of the rWFD.

Currently, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs are having a consultation on the proposed changes to legislation.

The British Plastics Federation has noted that the regulations are required to be imposed in the UK by December 12th this year and has asked to hear the opinions of any interested party on the potential new guidelines.ADNFCR-2977-ID-19895151-ADNFCR
