HBF: Increased housing starts may begin to address supply issues

Published on: Tuesday, 25 May 2010 05:00PM | Author: Editor |
An increasing number of housing starts may begin to address some of the supply and demand issues affecting the UK, it has been suggested.

Steve Turner is head of communications for the Home Builders Federation (HBF) and his comments may interest experts in the concrete plant hire field who want to plan for the months ahead.

He said the country's current residential property shortage is approaching a total of one million houses, so upcoming government policies need to address the problem by assisting first-time buyers and pushing for more housing starts.

"Already we are seeing people living with their parents for longer ... and people are delaying starting a family because they can't get the house that they want to live in," Mr Turner explained.

His comments follow a recent report from the Land Registry, which stated that house prices have grown by 7.5 per cent in the last year.

In March, the average house price fell by 0.6 per cent to £164,288.
