It is vital that the government support the house building industry in order to maintain current levels of property construction by concrete tool users, one organisation has said.

Amid proposed cuts in the development of social homes and the scrapping of the section 106 agreements, which ensure that private housing companies commit to providing affordable abodes, spokesperson for the Home Builders Federation Steve Turner said the leaders must make certain the recovery in the property sector is not damaged.

"It's vital that the government takes steps to maintain both private and affordable housing," he commented.

"The economic and social implications of not maintaining housing are quite clear."

Mr Turner's reaction follows a similar response from the National Housing Federation, which recently wrote to housing minister Grant Shapps to urge the leaders to stick to their pledge of supporting property development schemes this financial year, as well as cease the changes being made to the planning process, which is hindering the construction of new homes.
