When you are purchasing a concrete finishing tool such as a concrete trowel, you must make sure it is suitable to the job.

This is the view of Anne Balogh, a columnist at ConcreteNetwork.com, who backed recommendations from construction author Bob Harris.

In his book Bob Harris' Guide to Stamped Concrete, he noted that the tool needed to finish exterior concrete that is air-entrained is not the same as the one needed in different circumstances.

Indeed, he suggested that a magnesium bull float could work best in this situation, whereas a laminated wood bull float could be more effective on non-air-entrained concrete.

Ms Balogh stated that understanding these "nuances" can ultimately determine your decisions and which concrete finishing equipment you decide to buy.

Meanwhile, Jeff Gorton of the Reader's Digest advises that you need a proper set of concrete finishing tools in order to achieve a truly smooth and durable finish.

He said the skills can only be mastered if decent equipment is used on the building site.
