Bricklaying tools have been used by a fourth-generation tradesman to win a regional award.

According to the Maidenhead Advertiser, Rodian Montague took home the prize in the senior bricklaying category at last week's SkillBuild contest. He is currently studying in Langley and won the heat which took place at Barking and Dagenham College.

The apprentice bricklayer said the talent is in his blood, as his dad, grandfather and great-grandfather were all in the trade.

"I'm really interested in technical decorative brickwork and I'd like to work with English Heritage on old buildings," he told the newspaper.

Mr Montague will now go on to compete in a national competition later this year.

His success follows a similar case earlier this week, which saw brick tools used in a contest north of the border.

The Press and Journal reports that Christopher Farren, of Fife Street in Keith, came first in a SkillBuild test out of 14 bricklayers all vying for the title of best in their field.
