Using a brick jointer could be a good way to enhance the appeal of a mortar joint, an expert has suggested.

According to Dick Kreh, author of Building with Masonry, the jointing process adds an "attractive appearance" to the mortar joint.

Indeed, he said the type of joint finish combined with a different textured brick "can really enhance the finished look of any masonry wall".

Mr Kreh stated that a convex brick jointer is one essential item a builder should have among their bricklaying tools.

He said this forms an inverted rounded impression within the mortar joint.

The Plexiglass Jointer from W. Rose might be one good option for a bricklayer to consider purchasing.

It is ideal for use on white mortar, partly because it does not discolour or leave black marks.

Mr Kreh added that a good mortar joint can be the "icing on the cake" for any brick structure.
